Much Newness
As a result of my upcoming move to Wisconsin, my parents are undertaking to equip me with every object which I am likely to need. I am by no means ungrateful for this, as furnishing and supplying an apartment from nothing would have been a trying task for me alone. Today was nigh on overwhelming, as i found myself, on quite short notice presented with both a new computer and a new car.
The computer has been in the works for a while; the fact that the screen on my current laptop does not function meant that it did need replacement. I only found out Wednesday that I would be getting the car, and to get both on the same day was unanticipated to say the least.
The new computer is exactly the one I had wanted, a 2.5 GHz Macbook Pro, which then by default came with 2 Gb of RAM (same as I have now, but upgradable in the future), a 250 Gb hard-drive (four times what I have now), and a video card with 512 Mb of VRAM (8 times what i have now. Add to this that the dual core intel processor should be nearly four times the power of my 1.3 GHz PPC G4, I think that it's going to be awesome.
The new car is a used 4 door Saab 93, which is regrettably red. It's very comfortable and seems nice to drive, though I'll sorely miss the family's old 1990 Dodge Caravan1. For one thing, it feels remarkably solid, as I'm used to the way the poor old van flexes, shakes, and groans every time it turns or hits a bump. Unfortunately, the new Saab began burning huge quantities of oil on my first test drive after my dad drove it back here from Pittsburgh. Apparently this is likely to be due to a cracked piston ring. However, the freshly purchased warranty should take care of it handily.
At this point i now have nearly everything that i'll need to live on my own, but I still can hardly believe that it's really happening. Shouldn't I still be in high-school? Or elementary school? The years are just flying by, I fear.

In fact, my earliest memory that I can now recall is the night my parents bought that van, and it has a host of other good memories tied to it as well: listening to my parents old Moody Blues tapes in while we drove when I was small, road trips we've taken, and late night discussions with my friend Ralph when I was supposedly dropping him off by his dorm after our common class, but when we just got to talking. ↩
