Moving Into Leopard: I

Today, I tried out my new MPB for the first time; indeed I am typing this on it even now. It is every bit as awesome as I had hoped. However, Leopard has just as many pointless user interface stupidities as I had feared. I have begun the long and arduous process of fixing them:

  • Make the menu bar opaque
  • Make the Dock properly flat
  • Destroy Dashboard (this was something that had to be done in Tiger, too, of course)
  • Get rid of those weird "Search For" items in the Finder sidebar
  • Make the Dock properly flat
  • Turn off all blasted Exposé shortcut keys (also left over from Tiger)
  • Destroy Exposé
  • Restore rounded screen corners (OK, this one's so trivial I almost didn't do it, but it makes me feel much more comfortable now that I have.)

There are still a number of things to do, including replacing the ugly flat folder icons and changing the Dock's background color (which may not be possible, I fear). My greatest dream is to restore the brushed metal appearance, which looked so much more solid and tangible, but if it can be done at all it will require many hours of determined hacking.
