The Safari 3.0.4 Web Inspector
I upgraded to Safari 3.0.4 a few days ago, but I only just now went to use the web inspector to take a look at an object on one of my pages. The change from the previous version is stunning, and for the most part offers big improvements. The old looked like this, and it was quite handy, especially for diagnosing problems with one's CSS. The new version is as shown in this article The new layout and the awareness of objects related to the source code like images and style sheets is fantastic; I'm going to get a lot of mileage out of this.
The only complaint I have is that the highlighting of the element being inspected on the page is way too intrusive, just like that ugly (and also in my opinion stupid) overlay used when searching on a page. I appreciate that the highlight stays over time, unlike the old version which faded out rapidly, but I want to be able to see the rest of the page clearly while a single element is highlighted.
Also, the 'Use Transparent Window' setting seems to now be broken, but i can't say that i miss it; the HUD style window was cool looking but not very practical.
